Brazil has entered a decisive phase in shaping its climate future: the public consultation for its seven Sectoral Mitigation Plans is now open until August 18th. These plans are part of the country’s National Climate Change Mitigation Strategy (Plano Clima) and aim to guide Brazil’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2035, in line with the Paris Agreement.

Among the seven plans is the Cities Sectoral Plan, coordinated by the Ministry of Cities. This plan proposes a transformation of urban spaces through sustainability, inclusion, and climate resilience.
Key proposals from the Cities Plan include:
Repurposing degraded urban areas
Promoting dense, mixed-use development
Expanding sustainable mobility (public transport, walking, cycling)
Reducing car dependency and “compulsory trips”
Incentivizing circular economy practices
Integrating renewable energy into urban infrastructure
Mobility is a central pillar, targeting the decarbonization of urban fleets (buses, light trucks, motorcycles, and cars). Public policies will focus on electrification, modal shift, and clean fuel technologies.
The consultation is open on the Brasil Participativo platform and invites individuals, institutions, and companies to submit suggestions and comments to refine the measures before final approval.
For industry professionals and businesses engaged in emissions control, clean transport, urban planning, or green tech, this is a unique opportunity to influence national climate policy directly.
